Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Description

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment that involves breathing 100% oxygen in a pressurized environment. The increased pressure allows the body to absorb more oxygen, which can have therapeutic benefits. HBOT works with the hypoxia inducible factor-alpha, which is good for longevity.

Time Commitment

Between 60-90 minutes

Suggested Frequency

5 days a week

Time of Day

Any

How to Do It

Lie down in the hyperbaric oxygen chamber and breathe normally while the pressure is gradually increased to the prescribed level. It is recommended to do 20-40 sessions over several weeks.

Required Equipment

Hyperbaric oxygen chamber.

Benefits

  • Promotes wound and injury healing
  • Improves circulation
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Increases energy and endurance
  • May improve cognitive function
  • May help with certain neurological disorders

Why it works

Increased oxygen levels in the body promote healing and regeneration of damaged tissue, stimulate new blood vessel growth, and reduce inflammation.

Possible Side Effects

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is generally considered safe, but some people may experience mild side effects such as ear pain or sinus pressure. Oxygen toxicity, or claustrophobia may also occur.

It is important to tell your healthcare provider about any medical conditions or medications that may interfere with HBOT.

Tips

  • Choose a reputable facility with experienced healthcare providers.
  • Follow the recommended course of treatment for maximum benefits.
  • Consider combining HBOT with other therapies for even greater benefits.
  • Discuss any concerns or questions with your healthcare provider.
  • Be prepared to adjust your schedule as needed to accommodate the therapy sessions.
